WK06 Radial & Grid Patterns
ObjectiveTo guide children in building more structured patterns using symmetry, reflection, and radial (circular) design. This supports mathematical thinking and spatial organization.

Instructions Offer circular outlines or faint pre-printed grids. Have a few mandala-type references visible, but emphasize personal exploration over replication.

Show how to place shapes or colors around a central point (radial symmetry).
Demonstrate repeating one color or shape in a circular path.  Invite child to make their own pattern radiate or build in squares. Emphasize slow, careful repetition, with encouragement for balance.

Supplies
  1. Drawing compass or circle templates
  2. Rulers or square grids (optional for older children)
  3. Watercolor sets
  4. Brushes
  5. 9x12 paper
  6. Geometric pattern photos of mandalas and snowflakes
Prompts
“What happens when this shape turns in a circle?”

“Can you build your pattern like a snowflake — all sides equal?”

“What if the colors take turns like a game?”

“Does this pattern feel still or like it’s moving?”
